Today I am going to show you 3 ways on how to take a screenshot in Windows 10. A screenshot is basically an image of the information displayed on a computer device or smartphone.  Screenshot programs let you capture the screen that is open in front of you on your computer screen and saves the result in PNG or JPG format.

We all take screenshots on our PC or mobile phones. It has become an integral part of our Internet life. In the world where each and every one of us became overloaded with enormous information online, a screenshot has come to the rescue. A screenshot is a good way to capture the information on our PC or smartphone in order to go back to it later.

Windows OS already have inbuilt default tools using which one can take quick screenshots on Windows 10, 8, 7, etc. There are also third-party tools that you can use as your screen capture program. I will include an online screenshot beautifier tool to make your screenshot look cool.

There are 3 ways to take a screenshot on your PC. I will list them with all the details you need. It’s a simple thing to do and does not require any technical knowledge.

1. Using Snipping Tool Windows 10

Well, Snipping tool is the most used tool in Windows OS. Almost every Windows users know how to use it, but if you don’t do not worry I am here for that.

You do not need to download Snipping Tool for Windows 10 as it comes inbuilt with every Windows operating system. Here is how you can find and use this Windows tool:

  • Go to Cortana and search for “Snipping Tool“. In no time you will see an icon as in the screenshot below.

Tip: As I am sure you will need this tool often, it’s a good idea to Pin it to the taskbar. To do that Right Click on the Snipping tool and click Pin to taskbar.

  • Now, that you launched the Snipping tool by clicking on the Cortana search result its time to learn how to use it. Trust me it’s very easy to use. You will see a few options on the Snipping Tool window. Have a look:

I will explain ‘New’ & ‘Delay’ Snipping Tool options for your better understanding. Other options are self-explanatory.

New: When you click on “New”, your computer screen will fade. This is when you can take a screenshot. Using your mouse, Click and hold the Left Mouse button and drag it to the area you want to capture. Once you are satisfied with your selection just release the mouse button. With the sound of a click, the selected area screenshot will be captured.

  • As soon as you release the mouse button. A window with your selected area screenshot will pop up. Have a look at the screenshot below. I have also marked what those options do.

Delay: This is a great feature of the Snipping tool. To understand this option better let’s go back a little. When you click on ‘New‘ the screen immidealtly freezes so that you can take a screenshot. But if you want to delay the screen freeze than ‘Delay‘ option is where to look for. You can delay the screen freeze for up to 5 seconds.

There is also a shortcut to open the Snipping tool in Windows 10. Just press Windows Key + R, this will open a RUN command box.

Now just copy paste this:  {eeeb0e2d6787882f8a086655c0dbbec42722c1a7a4f0a32712f9a540aa28dc16}windir{eeeb0e2d6787882f8a086655c0dbbec42722c1a7a4f0a32712f9a540aa28dc16}\system32\SnippingTool.exe and press Enter. The smart way is to Pin the Snipping Tool to your taskbar.

2. Screenshot Using Print Screen key In Windows 10

Another way to take a screenshot on Windows 10 is by using the PrtSc key on your keyboard. When pressed, it takes a screenshot of the full screen and saves it in its temporary memory. Note that it will not allow you to take selected area screenshot.

Below is how you can use this key to capture screenshots.

  • First, go to the Window that you want to capture. Now press PrtSc key once, mostly located on the top right side of the keyboard(depends on keyboard to keyboard ).

  • Open Paint or press Windows Key + R and type in mspaint and press Enter (This will open the Paint Program on your computer).
  • Now press Ctrl + V on your keyboard.
  • Once you see your captured screenshot in the Paint program just save it as JPG or PNG. Your screenshot is ready.

Additional Tip:

If you want to capture selected area screenshot Snipping tool is the best. But there is also another way to do that.

  • Press Windows logo + Shift + S keys, your screen will freeze with a + cursor in the middle.
  • Press and hold mouse left key and select the area you want to capture. That’s it. Now open Paint and repeat the steps as instructed above.
